John - you know, it's funny, we had that same debate internally about giving away our stuff as a prize. I talked about that in my blog entry too. In the past, we didn't want to be seen as "cheap" by giving away our own software because it doesn't really cost us anything. We were absolutely shocked when many of the comments on my blog echoed your sentiments - people really wanted to get our software as a prize. We were stunned, and now we're doing that more often too. Thanks for your input!

Honestly? If I'm attending your presentation it's because I'm interested in your product, not the swag. Don't get me wrong, swag is appreciated and accepted, but it's not why I'm there. I think most DBA's would agree, we've got enough pens and T-shirts. But if you're going to have a drawing for a prize, why not your own product, the one you've just been trying to sell me? If I just saw a demo of Toad for SQL, I'd want to get my hands on a fully-functional copy ASAP. Or one that's active for more that 14 or 30 days.
